Parts List for Gibson Grabber Bass Guitar

Gibson bass guitars | Grabber main page | technical information

Every few years, Gibson produced detailed component lists with part numbers for all of their guitars. This was to assist in the correct purchase of spares for instruments where available. Two lists issued included the Grabber bass, 1977 and 1981.

1977

The 1977 parts list was the first to include the Grabber, though the parts were listed in broad sections, machine heads pickups etc. The section reproduced below details the pickup, controls and associated electronics for the Grabber bass.

1977 Gibson Grabber bass parts list

Note, by the time of this second listing, the potentiometer values (and therefore part numbers) have changed - from two identical 250kΩ pots to one 100kΩ tone pot and one 300kΩ volume pot.

1981

The parts list below was distributed in 1981; towards the end of the Gibson Grabber production run. It lists all parts for a 1980 Grabber bass. Some other parts to the ones listed were also used over the years. See also: Grabber sliding humbucker, Grabber plate bridge, Grabber pots, Schaller BM, or Schaller M4 tuning keys.

1972 Gibson L6-S Bass Prototype (Ripper, Grabber) Singlecut Sunburst

This bass guitar is the prototype for the L6-S bass, a model that was never manufactured by Gibson. Although it is the prototype for an instrument that was not produced, it also seems to be a prototype of the Ripper and Grabber models introduced later that are constructed with the same materials (maple neck and body) and similar dimensions. The look of this one does foreshadow those later models
