As fitted to Gibson EB-0, EB-1 (reissue), EB-2, EB-3, Epiphone Newport and Rivoli guitars, phasing in gradually from 1966/1967, and lasting until late 1969 for the solid body models, and into the 1970s for the EB-2. This unit was also fitted to the Kalamazoo KB bass as early as 1966; though scratchplate mounted - in order to do this it had a similar baseplate to the 70s height adjustable version, but without any springs, and therefore adjustability. See pics below.
The pickup itself is largely unchanged from previous versions (see mid 1960s version with wide, shallow cover), though Gibson had now started using plastic bobbins on which to wind the coils, and that is evident in the pictures below.
Pickup covers are chrome-plated, and held in place by 4 screws. The humbucker sits below; it is not height adjustable, although the four polepieces can be raised or lowered to adjust volume across the pickup. Typically a piece of foam sits below the pickup pushing it up, whilst pressure from the cover holds it in place.
When the cover is removed, the coils are visible. Note the extreme difference in the finish intensity in some of these images; the area which had been shielded from daylight by the cover still has it's original deep red colour.
Cover dimensions: 2 3/32" x 3 1/2" x 3/8".
