Schaller BM tuners (late 1970s)

Gibson bass guitars | Part descriptions | Tuners | Schaller BM tuners (late 1970s)

The Schaller BM tuner had a 14 mm post; slightly wider than the similar-looking 60s Kluson tuners and roughly the same as the 1973/74 open gear tuners (also probably Kluson). The post hole is 17mm. The seventies Gibson logo appears on base plate of each tuner, with MADE IN GERMANY on the reverse. As fitted to the Gibson EB0, EB3, Grabber, G-3, Ripper, Les Paul Signature, RD series and Flying V bass. 1975-82

One major advantage of the Schaller BM over the earlier Kluson models is the flat baseplate; there is no need for any additional headstock routing to accommodate the raised sections on the underside. This tuner disassembles into more pieces than the earlier keys, but this is another great advantage. This key can be re-assembled as either left or right handed. The same set will work for a two-by-two or four-in-a-row headstock.
