Pickguards

Gibson bass guitars | Part descriptions for Gibson bass guitars | Pickguards

This page provides pickguard / scratchplate specifications for several vintage Gibson bass guitars. Downloadable tracings are provided to use as a templates when making reproductions.

Please read before printing out the templates

  • The template images on this site are designed to print at the correct size without any modification. They are traced on 5mm square paper, to facilitate accurate reproduction. Make sure that the background squares are indeed 5mm wide before making your pickguard. Some printers may scale the image which will obviously give you an incorrectly sized guard. Check any printing options for settings that prevent this.
  • Screw-holes can vary from instrument to instrument, so it is generally best to cut out your paper template, then lay it over your bass. If the screw holes do not line up, you can then easily mark new ones on your template.
  • Watch out for perpendicular and revealed (bevelled) edges. Most guards only have the bevelled edge where they are NOT up against the neck, pickup or pickup mounting ring.

Hi, great page. I would love to see a downloadable template for the Gibson LS9-S Ripper Bass pickguard, including a template for its Truss-rod cover. That would be awesome !!! Thanks. Keep up the good work...

I just got a '69 eb0 and it's missing the tug bar/finger rest. Does anyone make a repro or is there a source for a vintage piece?

I need a high quality WHITE Gibson EB-5 Bass "pick guard" for a bass I bought in 2014. Can you make it in just plain white with nice soft rounded edges? Please send me a price quote if you can. I used to own a Gibson Marauder satin guitar with white pickguard and play bass, loved that look. Trying to get close. Love the bass but love that look. Pickguard is only missing part. Thanks.
