Gibson EB-3 soundclips

The soundclips demonstrated on this page come from three sources, in order to demonstrate the EB3 in a variety of real situations.

Firstly there are clips of basses played directly into my computer sound card (mobile-pre USB external sound card) - to demonstrate as natural sound as possible. There is no amplifier, effects or eq-ing to alter the recorded sound in any way.

Secondly there are a number of studio-recorded tracks submitted to this site by visitors. There may have been effects added; amplifier, mixing desk or other devices colouring the recorded sound

Lastly there are the youtube clips which are predominantly live and show a range of different EB3 sounds, varying by players, amps and effects employed. From the 1960s classic rock bass playing of Jack Bruce, who relies on large amplifiers (and may even have had modified bass circuitry) to more contemporary acts looking for a vintge sound

Direct recordings - bass only

The recordings below are taken from three EB3s. Notice the difference between the 'with tone choke' sound, for series 1 and series 2 basses. Series 2 completely removes the subsonic rumble. All volume and tone settings are set to full unless stated otherwise.
