In the CMI and Norlin periods of Gibson ownership, the EB-0 was Gibson's best selling bass; 22,262 instruments over 20 years. 1969/1970 were the peak years; interestingly late '69 saw the change of ownership from CMI to Norlin, but also the change to the slotted headstock, and the introduction of the long scale EB-0L (see a typical 1969 EB-0, and the 1970 slotted headstock model)
In 1972, the solid-body EB range was redesigned again (see a typical 1972 EB-0) with a much chunkier body, maple neck, and a repositioned pickup. However, in the following years sales plummeted. Whether this was related to the re-modelling, changes in bass 'fashion', economic conditions, or the introduction of new models, is pure conjecture, though in probability all of these factors probably played a part.
