Procol Harum had their first hit in 1967; Whiter Shade of Pale was their first single and became the biggest record of 1967, and one of the biggest hits of all time. The bass player in the band at the time was David Knights, but by 1969 he had left the band, and Chris Copping joined as his replacement, staying with the band until 1977. Knights recorded three albums with the band; Procol Harum, Shine on Brightly and A Salty Dog, before calling it a day in late 1969.
